Vertical Stripes

Skinny Jeans with Striped Shirt

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Do you want to know something sad? It’s late into Wednesday night, and I was just about to hit the schedule button on this blog post when it hit me that today is a holiday. In college, it was customary/required to wake up around 4 a.m. to start drinking today, and flash forward to a few years later and St. Patrick’s Day doesn’t even register on my radar. File this under “You Know You’re An Adult When…”

I bought this striped blouse way back in November when I was in the Anthropologie fashion show. I have a serious problem when it comes to collared shirts, but this one was different than most that I have (that’s me convincing myself why I needed it).

First, the collar isn’t as structured as other tops, and the shirt itself is pretty loose and flowy. Second, the stripes are vertical. I’ve never been one to sport vertical stripes, and I feel like they’ve always gotten such a bad rap for looking unflattering. I can say that that notion just isn’t the case. I definitely think if you’re going with a long stripe the top needs to have a looser fit to it. It’s more forgiving and you feel a lot more comfortable in it.

Since the striped shirt is a little bit on the loose side, I went with a skinny high rise jean from Madewell. These are equally as comfortable as the shirt, and the high rise aspect is a game changer. These pants were my first true dive into the high rise waist world, and I think I’m hooked. Any pants that don’t go as high just feel wrong now.

On a spring note, we’re only THREE days away! I may or may not have a countdown permanently happening in my head.

I think your shirt is gorgeous (as is your denim) and I would agree that vertical stripes can be amazing. I have my eye on a striped shirtdress for spring and the vertical stripes are what drew me to it!

Thank you Jamie!! I’ve used other NARS products, but this is my first lip product from them. I am OBSESSED. It’s so smooth!
