Video: Kendra Scott Color Bar + A GIVEAWAY

9 Nov

Jewelry has long been an obsession of mine, and it’s pretty easy to see the second you see my massive jewelry collection.

I have every kind of piece you can imagine, ranging from dainty to statement making. Pieces that I’ve splurged on, pieces that were handed down to me from my mom and grandma. For me, jewelry has always been really personal. It’s a reflection of my varying taste and each different piece holds a special memory.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Kendra Scott, and have grown to love the brand even more since they opened their Liberty Center store last year. I think most of the baubles I’ve added to my collection in the last year have been from Kendra Scott. Everything is just so good!

One of the staples of the Kendra Scott brand is the Color Bar. The Color Bar is a genius concept that allows you to customize your own piece of Kendra Scott jewelry via a touch screen and have it created in front of you to take home that day. Or, you can customize your baubles online from the comforts of your home. Amazing, right?!

It may or may not surprise you that I had an extremely difficult time narrowing down my design. Like I said, everything is too good! I ultimately decided on the Rayne necklace in rose gold metal with a rose quartz stone. I’m in love with it. I don’t have many rose gold pieces, and I loved the rich tone it gave off when paired with the rose quartz.

I teamed up with the Kendra Scott Liberty Center location to offer one lucky winner in the Cincinnati/Dayton area a chance to create something of their own from the Color Bar!

Fall Jewels + A GIVEAWAY

17 Oct

Grey Fitted Turtleneck

Long time no blog! I feel like 2016 has been one big hiatus for me, but my schedule got crazy again the past few weeks. When my calendar started filling up at the beginning of the year, I already knew October was going to be my busiest month. Well, here we are mid-month, and it’s just as insane as I predicted. Last week was spent in sunny Orlando for a real estate conference. It was about 90% work and 10% fun, but if you’ve ever been to a conference you know it’s 0% downtime to get stuff done. We tacked on an extra day after the conference for lounging, which was much-needed and incredible. Next up on my whirlwind October agenda? The Cutler Real Estate awards banquet in Canton later this week, a weekend trip to Cleveland for Joe’s birthday and then one of my best friend’s weddings that I’m in the following weekend. Just typing all that made the panic set in. Sure, most of it is fun stuff, but all that traveling can wear a girl out!

Tara Lea Smith Jewelry

Uniqlo Turtleneck

I’m starting the week with some fresh fall baubles. I recently met up with my friend Tara Lea Smith to see the gorgeous pieces she’s been creating the past year. If you want me to paint a pretty (and sparkly) picture, when I got home I immediately laid all of the necklaces across my bed to start doing some outfit brainstorming. Yes, I have so many new pieces that they took up my entire bed. I’m excited to share them with you over the next few months!

First up is this colorful purple, pink and yellow statement maker. It’s actually been pretty warm here, which is totally cool with me. I decided to keep it warm on top and breezy on the bottom, pairing a fitted grey turtleneck with a pleated leather skirt. I also recently rediscovered these mules that I got back in spring and had totally forgotten about. Score!

Bauble Wish List: Charm & Chain Collection

16 Jun

You’ve probably seen me mention Charm & Chain here before, as it’s one of my favorite online destinations for the latest and greatest in jewelry. With pieces from Erickson Beamon, DANNIJO, Loren Hope and Kendra Scott to name a few, it’s pretty much bauble heaven.

I was ecstatic when I recently noticed that Charm & Chain released their own namesake collection. After years of selling the best from other jewelry lines, they decided to create a range of pieces inspired by their vast knowledge and experience. I personally love that they created statement pieces as well as some simple, understated options. There’s also a vintage charm that resonates throughout the collection. Basically, I want everything they’re selling.

The Perfect Pairing: Summer Cocktail + Kendra Scott Baubles

19 May

Grapefruit Champagne Cocktail

Today’s post is all about two of my favorite things: jewelry and champagne!

This is another video in my Perfect Pairing series on my YouTube channel (make sure to subscribe if you aren’t already!), and this edition involves a spring/summer champagne cocktail. I wanted to make something using flavors that reminded me of summer and being outside. That’s why I thought grapefruit would be the perfect ingredient. Some fresh grapefruit juice, mint and champagne? What else would you want to drink this time of year?!

 Kate Spade Jigger

Finding the best jewelry match for this drink was extremely easy this month. I’ve mentioned the Kendra Scott Cindy earrings a few times on here, but these are my top choice for the upcoming summer months. The charms are what really sold me on these, and they add a really fun touch to a traditional hoop earring. These are statement earrings, but in a delicate way that’s not too over the top. I also associate these earrings with summer because they look incredible with anything off the shoulder. Something about the mix of dangly earrings and exposed shoulders just feels right.

Bauble Wish List: Bounkit

11 May

I feel like it’s been way too long since I last did a Bauble Wish List! This rainy weather is actually what reminded me that I haven’t been sharing my jewelry favorites lately. I was freaking out a little because the weather has been so rainy here the past two weeks, which means I haven’t been able to shoot any outfit pictures. That’s when it hit me that I was way overdue to showcase some of my favorite dreamiest jewels (and by dreamiest I mean I dream of owning all these pieces).

This month, I wanted to discuss a jewelry designer who’s known for creating colorful, statement-making stunners. Hassan Bounkit’s collections are hand crafted in New York City, but the pieces themselves are inspired by his native Morocco. The bold colors are what made me instantly fall in love with Bounkit. Not only are the colors themselves incredible and eye-catching, but when the gemstones are mixed together? Even better! I’m always amazed how each collection pairs colors I’d never think would look good together, but somehow make total sense.

The best part? Bounkit releases three collections every year, so there are always gorgeous new pieces to sink your teeth into (or should I say “feast your eyes on”). I picked some of my favorite baubles from the current Bounkit collection to share with you guys. These pieces remind me so much of spring and summer, and they’re inspiring me to put together my most fun and colorful outfits. Enjoy!

Week In Review

8 Apr

We’ve officially made it to the end of this cold and rainy week. I had to keep reminding myself that it wasn’t fall all week. I’ve actually resorted to turning my space heater on high whenever I’m at the office. This probably isn’t healthy, but I let it get to the point where my skin is physically burning from the heat before I turn it down. That’s probably only making me less resistant to the cold, but I think I’m already past the point of no return there. Let’s hope these next few weeks of April will treat us to some real spring weather!

Due to my nut allergy, I never have the pleasure of ordering a fancy dessert whether I’m at a restaurant or a cute little bakery. If I want something sweet, it’s up to me to make it myself. I’ve become quite the baker over the years, and am always open to adding new recipes to my repertoire. When I came across this choux à la crème glacée recipe on LaurenConrad.com, my eyes instantly lit up. These are essentially miniature ice cream sandwiches that are *almost* too pretty to eat. Sure, they’d probably still taste amazing without the sprinkles, but can’t we all agree that rainbow sprinkles make everything a bit more tempting? I’m also living by the motto that since they’re “miniature” you won’t feel as guilty eating them. Cheers!

If there’s a website I like to stalk on the reg, it’s Charm & Chain. Obviously, my curious mind always veers over to the site since it’s overflowing with the latest and greatest in jewelry. The good news? There’s a 25% off sitewide sale if you use the code “WEAREFAMILY”. Dangerous and amazing all at once! I’m really digging this Loren Hope Eden Y Necklace, and the fact that it’s on sale is tempting me. I love the mix of the antiqued gold with the pinkish purple and emerald gemstones. What do you guys think?

Spring is the perfect time of year to utilize the amazing flavor of lemon. I love anything that has lemon in it, and although I’ve never had cognac, I think this Lemon Thyme Sidecar from Cake N Knife sounds delicious. It looks crisp and refreshing, and would be the perfect weekend drink to make for your girlfriends.

Video: 3 DIY Choker Necklaces

10 Mar

Jewelry is a pretty prevalent topic around here, and I love any excuse to talk about it. Up until now, I’ve only worn/found jewelry that’s made by other brands and designers. Honestly, it’s probably going to stay that way, but I wanted to try something new and attempt to make my own for once. Luckily, the “jewelry” I made only involved some suede fabric and a little creativity, but it’s totally relevant to the choker trend that’s everywhere right now.

I’ve always digged the choker necklace look, and have quite a few in my jewelry collection. Right now however, fabric choker’s seem to be all the rage, and I can totally see why. They bring back that 90s vibe everyone longs after, and they add a little drama to your look. I’ve seen so many variations on this trend, but wanted to put my own spin on it.

I knew I wanted to go with a suede fabric to give it a nicer feel. Also, this soft suede molds really nicely into any position you try to put it in, and it stays in place. Did I mention that each roll of suede ribbon only cost me $2 each? Yeah, you need to get to Michael’s and Hobby Lobby stat!

You’ll have to watch the video to get the tutorials on all three of these, but you can put it together in under a minute.

The first necklace I made is probably the boldest of the bunch. It’s a light brown suede with edgy gold embellishments. I made this to go around my neck three times to make for a dramatic statement. This one transported me back to the 90s, but also gave me a modern day vibe, as well!

Next up, I had to do something feminine. I used a piece of black suede string to tie a cute and neat little bow around the front of my neck. This bow choker would pair perfectly with an off-the-shoulder top.

Lastly, I opted for a mix between choker and lariat. Using the same black suede, I first created a choker and finished it off with a chic lariat. You can definitely make these necklaces a lot crazier, but I wanted to keep mine simple and free of any beads or other materials. What’s nice about doing it yourself is that you can customize it to your heart’s desire. I’ve seen a few fabric choker necklaces out there that are upwards of $50. I’m all about dropping money on high quality pieces, but in this case it makes so much more sense to go the DIY route.

The Perfect Pairing: Oscars Cocktail + BHLDN Baubles

Oscars Drink Ideas

As I was typing the title of today’s blog post, I inadvertently started humming “My Favorite Things” from the Sound of Music soundtrack. I love champagne, glitz and glamour, and anything that involves jewelry, which all happen to be major components of The Oscars. It’s kind of like all my dreams becoming a reality for one night a year, and it’s magical.

As you know, I’ve recently started a series on my blog called The Perfect Pairing. If you’re not familiar with it, I show you a cocktail recipe I love and pair it with the perfect piece of jewelry. Who wouldn’t want their cocktail with a side of sparkle? Not me!

I did a video on how to make the drink and showing off the earrings, but wanted to share some pictures I took in case you needed any Oscars inspiration.

French 75 Cocktail

Since The Oscars are this Sunday, today we’re making a French 75 to celebrate. The French 75 has been around for ages, but there’s debate on where/when it actually originated. Here’s an interesting read on that subject. No matter where the drink started, it was the first cocktail I thought of when I wanted to do an Academy Awards drink. I instantly think of old Hollywood glamour when I think of a French 75, and it doesn’t get more glamorous than the Oscars. With the mix of champagne, lemon juice, gin and sugar, it’s classic flavors coming together to create something timeless and amazing.

Now, onto the jewelry. Just like I knew what cocktail I wanted to make, I didn’t even hesitate when it came to the baubles. I immediately reached for my BHLDN Spire Earrings to complement this fancy cocktail. These were a Christmas gift from my boyfriend, and yes he has incredible taste in jewelry (lucky me). Anytime you pair pearls and Swarovski crystals, it’s a match made in heaven. I love the mix of feminine and glam, and these make for one eye-catching pair of earrings. Does anyone else get art deco vibes from these like I do? Very old Hollywood!

I wanted to add some personality to my Oscars drink setup, so I put paper bows on my champagne stems. I bought a set of gold, black and white patterned bows last year at Hobby Lobby, and was anxious to use them for something Oscars related. Luckily, they’re selling them again this year, so I’d snag them up if you need a party idea!

These gold glitter boxes caught my eye, and I knew they’d be perfect for popcorn. Any excuse for glitter on Oscars night, right?!

Kate Spade Barware

I’ve mentioned my love for Kate Spade barware before, but this jigger has been an essential addition to my bar cart. I use it for all my drinks, and I love the gold and silver contrast. Well done, Kate Spade!

Bauble Wish List: Kendra Scott Spring

16 Feb

It’s time for February’s Bauble Wish List! How is it mid February already? I want time to slow down, but I also want it to be spring, so I’m a little conflicted. How about time flying until spring arrives? I think that’s the best alternative.

Not only am I anxious for spring because of the weather, but now that I’ve seen the Kenda Scott spring collection in person, I’m even more ready for it. Luckily, the jewels are something we don’t have to wait around for because you can shop them now!

I attended an event at the Kendra Scott store in Liberty Township over the weekend, and was amazed by everything I was seeing. There are lots of gorgeous stones in this collection, and some incredible pieces that incorporate unique pearls. There are a lot of different pearl varieties too, including black brown and the standard ivory.

I fell in love with the amethyst Carey earrings, and knew I needed to get them. I included them below, but it’s hard to see its true beauty online. They’re a stunning shade of pastel purple, and think they really complement brown hair. Plus, I have a lot of weddings to attend this year, and have been searching high and low for a reliable pair of statement earrings. I can’t wait to style them!

I included my other favorites from the spring collection below. Everything looks rich and makes for a subtle statement. The stones do all the talking, and no two pieces are the same.

The Perfect Pairing: Valentine’s Day

4 Feb

Valentine's Day Cocktail

It’s almost the weekend, guys! Not only am I pumped that we’re one day away from Friday, but I get to see my boyfriend today after a monthlong hiatus. Our schedule’s have both been crazy since the new year, but he’s passing through Cincinnati today after spending the week working in Kentucky. Unfortunately, he can only stay for a quick lunch because he has to get back to Cleveland. It’s not too bad though, because he’ll be rolling through town next weekend and staying the entire time. We also got lucky that Valentine’s Day is next weekend, so it’s the perfect excuse to plan a night out and spend some time together.

In keeping with the theme of Valentine’s Day, today’s post is all about the day of love. As you may remember, I started a new series at the end of December called “The Perfect Pairing”. Basically, I take a cocktail (usually champagne based) and pair it with the baubles of my choice. I pick recipes and pieces of jewelry that I think complement each other to create a perfect match.

Since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I put together a quick and easy cocktail that’s perfect for a date night or a Galentine’s Day celebration. It’s a Pink Champagne Raspberry Float. Doesn’t the name just sound tasty? I made something similar to these for my family on Christmas morning, but I really love this recipe because it involves only three ingredients. Yes, all you need is pink champagne (I used Barefoot Bubbly’s Pink Moscato Champagne), raspberry sorbet and fresh raspberries. Does it get any easier?!

If you want something a little less sweet, you can substitute the pink champagne for something more dry. To make this drink, all you have to do is put a few small scoops of sorbet in a champagne glass, pour the champagne over top of it and then garnish with fresh raspberries. I wasn’t kidding when I said it was simple! I love raspberries, so any excuse to mix them with my champagne is a win in my book.

Fresh Raspberries

The jewelry I’m pairing this champagne float with is these pink Kate Spade earrings. I thought these would be appropriate because I got them as a gift from my boyfriend a few years ago. He has great taste when it comes to jewelry, and I wear these earrings all the time. They really stand out against my brown hair. Plus, they’re pink and nothing says Valentine’s Day quite like some pink statement earrings.

Cheers!
