Happy Monday, everyone!

I decided to do something social this weekend, which is very unlike me once it starts getting colder (I go into hibernation mode when it’s cold). Miraculously, it’s been so mild here for months, so it’s made me more willing to venture out instead of curl up in bed come Friday night. Not only was the weather enticing, but I was also invited to check out the newly opened Finery Dress Boutique in Over-the-Rhine. Finery is a dress rental boutique that allows you to rent out gorgeous dresses at an affordable price. As someone who attended a ton of weddings this year, I can attest how pricy finding the right dress can be. Renting a dress instead of buying one you may wear once or twice is genius, and their selection was incredible. I look at a lot of clothes, and was impressed at the unique selection Finery offered. Check it out Cincinnati ladies!

Molly, Elise and I decided to grab drinks after visiting Finery, and it was so nice to get together and catch up with my blogging friends.

White Bow Blouse

Since I took a bit of a “blogging break” in October, I have a lot of outfits that haven’t made an appearance yet on my blog. This has been one of my favorite outfits I’ve worn this fall, and it’s definitely because of all the feminine pieces paired together. I actually bought this Banana Republic bow blouse way back in July, but had to wait to wear it until it was more seasonally appropriate. The bow is detachable, which is so nice since this is a perfect layering blouse.

I’ve been a bit brooch obsessed ever since I inherited some of my grandma’s brooches when she passed away a few years ago. I bought some new ones recently, including the sparkly one I’m wearing in today’s post. Brooches are my favorite accessory at the moment. There’s so many ways to utilize them!

Another feminine piece that has quickly become a closet staple is this J.Crew pink and purple houndstooth skirt. I absolutely love the colors and the pattern. It’s a fun take on a classic print. Usually once it starts getting cold I begin to wear more simple black pieces. I have a feeling though that these feminine pieces are going to be on constant rotation this season!

How To Layer with a Dress

Midwest friends, how incredible was yesterday’s weather? I was so happy when I walked out my door in the morning and didn’t need the heavy winter coat I was wearing. I’m in full on spring mode now. After work, I slipped on my running shoes and got in a nice outdoor workout. Hopefully nobody saw me, but I felt like I was smiling the entire time because the weather made me so happy. I’m definitely one of those people whose mood is affected by the weather, and I

I’ve been all about feminine looks lately. My style typically veers toward feminine, but it’s been really going that route lately. I think because I have so many collared shirts that it’s the easiest thing to grab in the morning. My collection runs about fifteen shirts deep, so it’s no joke! This is the first time all season I’ve done the layered dress look, and I’m regretting that I didn’t do it more often. I love how polished it looks, and it’s a nice way to mix textures since the blouse is silky and the dress is wool.

On a hair note, I think it’s time for me to get a cut. I only get my hair cut a few times a year (I know, I’m terrible), and usually let it get to the point where it’s in urgent need of a trim. I think we’re finally there. When it’s curled it looks fine, but straight? It’s straight up scary. I wish there was a way to magically shorten it for those days I want to straighten it, and then keep it long for my curly moments. Since that’s not an option, I think a good trim is just what I need to get my locks in check.

I’ve also been adding this vintage brooch to everything I wear. I know I’ve talked about it a lot before, but I’m on a total brooch craze at the moment! In keeping with the feminine theme, I wanted to take a moment for these ruffled sleeves. You can pretty much put ruffles on anything and I’m guaranteed to buy it.

Afternoon At The Museum

4 Jan

bow blouse with brown leather skirt

If I had to pick a uniform that I was forced to wear every day, this would be it. I mean, it has all the essentials that I consider key to my fashion routine: an oversized bow-tie, my Mary-Jane heels and a chestnut brown vegan leather skirt. I felt like Blair Waldorf straight out of a Gossip Girl episode, especially with the location we shot these pictures at. You know how Blair and her friends hung out on the museum steps before school? It kind of felt like that for a few minutes. The Cincinnati Art Museum has the most gorgeous and grand front entrance, and I took full advantage for these pictures.

These pictures were obviously taken before our Midwest winter kicked into full gear. I’ll fully admit that I wouldn’t be able to tackle bare legs in our current cold temperatures.

This outfit is comprised completely of some of my favorite staples. It goes without saying that I wear these shoes in almost every blog post. I’m super hard on shoes, and am both surprised and relieved that these Mary-Jane’s have held up for a few years now. I wish I would have bought another pair, because these might be my favorite shoes that I own. I’m selective of what shoes I buy, and have yet to find a pair that will live up to these. This blazer and skirt are other pieces I’ve had for a long time now. The blazer dates all the way back to early college!

Now that I’m getting older, I really appreciate the simple staples I have in my wardrobe. Really, those are the pieces you can mix and match the most, and there are so many outfits you can create from the basics. I’m interested to see how my style evolves this year, but I’m sure I’ll be using these feminine pieces as inspiration.

My New Favorite Top + A GIVEAWAY!

21 Dec

Anthropologie Wool Cotton Top

Ladies, I know you will understand my excitement when I say I’ve found my “new favorite top“. Sure, we probably all have like ten tops we’d consider to be our “favorite”, but I can tell you that right now this is mine.

Anthropologie Ruffle Hem Top

We first met when I walked in the Anthropologie fashion show last month. During my fitting, I tried on different outfits that the Anthro girls pulled for me. I was pretty impressed when I saw this ruffled top in my dressing room. It’s totally my style, and fit like a glove when I put it on.

It has a layered look to it, but this is one top. The grey sweater portion is wool, and the rest is made of cotton. What I love is that it has a nice stretch to it, too. I wore a few looks in the show, but this was my favorite. A few people came up to me afterward and insisted that I needed to buy this top, and I happily obliged. It’s perfectly feminine, and has the potential to be casual or dressy.

Holiday Glam in Flowers and Bows

30 Nov

Blair Waldorf Fashion

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! I took a much needed Internet break last week when I was in St. Louis, and it felt amazing. Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s full steam ahead into the holiday season, and having a little break was just what I needed.

Holiday Outfit Ideas for Women

Since December starts tomorrow (crazy!), it’s time to start thinking about holiday outfits. As much as I’m a warm weather girl, this is my favorite time of year to dress up. There are so many parties and events, meaning it’s the perfect excuse to go all out with your look.

I bought this green and black skirt from Anthropologie fairly recently, but have already worn it multiple times. I saw it online right when it hit the Anthropologie website, and happened to see it in the store later that day when I went shopping. I wasn’t going to ignore that sign, and instantly took it to the checkout line. I totally think this skirt is something right out of a Gossip Girl episode. Can’t you see Blair Waldorf wearing this?!

Garden Glimmer Skirt Anthropologie

The center of the flowers are actually made up of shimmery threads, so it adds a subtle pop of sparkle. I thought it was silver, but my mom thinks its gold. Either way, it’s subtle enough that you can pair it with silver or gold accessories and pull it off!

Since it’s Cyber Monday, you can get free shipping on all your orders at Anthropologie and 25% off sale items with the code ‘xtragood’!
