Fall Jewels + A GIVEAWAY

17 Oct

Grey Fitted Turtleneck

Long time no blog! I feel like 2016 has been one big hiatus for me, but my schedule got crazy again the past few weeks. When my calendar started filling up at the beginning of the year, I already knew October was going to be my busiest month. Well, here we are mid-month, and it’s just as insane as I predicted. Last week was spent in sunny Orlando for a real estate conference. It was about 90% work and 10% fun, but if you’ve ever been to a conference you know it’s 0% downtime to get stuff done. We tacked on an extra day after the conference for lounging, which was much-needed and incredible. Next up on my whirlwind October agenda? The Cutler Real Estate awards banquet in Canton later this week, a weekend trip to Cleveland for Joe’s birthday and then one of my best friend’s weddings that I’m in the following weekend. Just typing all that made the panic set in. Sure, most of it is fun stuff, but all that traveling can wear a girl out!

Tara Lea Smith Jewelry

Uniqlo Turtleneck

I’m starting the week with some fresh fall baubles. I recently met up with my friend Tara Lea Smith to see the gorgeous pieces she’s been creating the past year. If you want me to paint a pretty (and sparkly) picture, when I got home I immediately laid all of the necklaces across my bed to start doing some outfit brainstorming. Yes, I have so many new pieces that they took up my entire bed. I’m excited to share them with you over the next few months!

First up is this colorful purple, pink and yellow statement maker. It’s actually been pretty warm here, which is totally cool with me. I decided to keep it warm on top and breezy on the bottom, pairing a fitted grey turtleneck with a pleated leather skirt. I also recently rediscovered these mules that I got back in spring and had totally forgotten about. Score!

Signs of Fall

1 Sep

Pleated Leather Skirt with Chambray Shirt

Chambray and leather are two major fashion signs that fall is near. I like fall, but I like summer much better. Summer would be a year round season if it were up to me. I do like fall fashion though, so I’m conflicted. A month or two of fall and then back to summer would be my dream. Hey, even spring is great, so maybe just eliminating winter would solve my seasonal slump. In any case, I can never get enough of leather or chambray, so it only made sense to pair them with each other!

I wore this look last week for the Thread Cincinnati craft party with Gild Collective. I’m going to post more on that party soon (it involves wine, jewelry and a rooftop), but today it’s all about the outfit.

Everything I’m wearing I’ve actually had for awhile now. Don’t you love when you spend money on classic pieces that get their money’s worth? I’ve had this top and skirt for about three years. I’d say that’s a long time in fashion years!

Faux Fur & Leather

Leather Mini Skirt with Faux Fur Jacket

These pictures were taken on what was probably the last nice day here in Cincinnati. I think these pale legs are going to be covered for the next five months, which is probably for the best. Right now it feels like the middle of winter, and it makes me want to hibernate in my bed. It’s 10:30 on Wednesday night as I type this, and I’m currently in my warmest clothes, with an electric heating pad on my lap, watching Sixteen Candles. I’m pathetic, but warm.

Earlier last night consisted of another Cincinnati fashion blogger get-together at W.G. Kitchen & Bar (formerly The Wine Guy). I indulged in a wine flight with four different sweet wines. They were all really good, which made a good night even better ;)!

You may remember me talking about the Gap Clearance Center in Kentucky. Well, that’s where I got the leather skirt I’m wearing today. Pretty good find, right? I was happy with myself, at least! The color is what sold me on it. I loved the burgundy/maroon/red/oxblood shade (there are a million terms for this color). I wore it out a few weekends ago with a fitted black sweater, but wanted to pair it with something a little more sophisticated today. I’ve been all about the classic white blouse lately, and adding this sweater with silver buttons and faux fur collar really glams it up! I may not be able to wear this outfit now that it’s so cold, but at least I’ll have these pictures to remind me of warmer times.

This past weekend was spent completely cutting myself off from technology. The only time I really used my phone for anything was to check OpenTable to make sure Nada had availability late Saturday night. My friends and I wanted to soak up our alcohol with some chips and guac, and it was the best decision I made all weekend. Mexican food is always a good idea, in my opinion. Another perk of late-night dining is when your boyfriend meant to order a mojito, but instead asked for a mimosa, which he immediately gave to me (because it’s never too early to start brunching).

It felt great to unplug from the Internet over the weekend. It’s something I hadn’t done in awhile, but I’m feeling majorly recharged now that a new week has started. I think we can officially say it’s fall now. My boyfriend and I got cocktails at a rooftop bar last week, and just one night later it was freezing. You would have thought I was braving a snowstorm by the outfits I wore over the weekend. One night included a large white fuzzy vest and a scarf. I am not prepared for the next six months!

Feels Like Fall

22 Sep

Brown Leather Skirt with Brown Heels

I’ve been seeing so many signs of fall lately. The leaves are starting to turn colors, the air is more crisp and it’s getting dark extremely early! I’m not a fan of the early darkness, but it’s inevitable. I took these pictures last week when the sun was starting to set, and I can tell it’s going to be an interesting challenge to get pictures in. You’d think I’d be a seasoned pro at this since it’s technically my third fall taking outfit pictures. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and I still find myself scrambling to get a picture as the sun sets.

In honor of the seasons changing, I wore this fall-inspired outfit to work (minus the heels) last week. This Tara Lea Smith necklace ended up being perfect for my brown leather skirt. Tara and I both agreed that this necklace is the perfect transition piece into fall, and I don’t think the colors could be any more perfect together. I’ve also been pretty eager to put on this skirt for awhile now. I love how warm and rich brown leather looks. Plus, this is faux leather, so it’s extremely soft and easy to move in!

I didn’t post too much last week because I was in Canton, Ohio for my work’s awards banquet. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before, but I’m a realtor at Cutler Real Estate here in Cincinnati. November marks my one year anniversary in real estate, and I’m excited to spend many more years in the business. I actually won the Rookie of the Year Award for making the most sales out of newly licensed agents. I never win anything, so I was extremely excited to be recognized!

Sleeveless Black Top with White Collar

As much as I love color, I’ve always gravitated toward an all-black ensemble. My closet would easily be a sea of black if I didn’t make a conscious effort to incorporate bright, bold pieces into it. During the summertime, I’m all about the color, but as the temperatures cool down I’m always reaching for my black staples. If you’ve followed me from the beginning, you’ll know I have a soft spot for this faux leather pleated skirt. I think I even wore it in one of my first outfit posts! This ASOS collared top is a newer addition to the black section of my closet, but it’s getting plenty of attention as well. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten any compliments on it when I’ve worn it out, but I love it. In fact, I even got harassed by a drunk man over the weekend because it seemed to bother him so much.

On my way to dinner Friday, I walked past a guy standing outside at a bar who kept calling my mom and I “sister” as we walked by. A little confusing, but we ignored him and kept walking. After dinner, the man apparently had not left the bar, and then screamed “the nun is back” as we walked by. I then realized he was talking about me and this black top I had on. Apparently he needed to keep talking so then started yelling “hello Sister” multiple times. I guess I was dressed a little too conservative for him, which is fine because the only person I’m trying to impress is myself! Didn’t intend on getting deep there, but I can’t stand when people make unnecessary comments on people’s outfits.

Earlier in the night, I attended Cincy Chic’s Champagne & Shoes event at PNC downtown. Myself and some local fashion bloggers judged the “Chicest Shoes Of All” contest, which awarded the attendee with the best shoes a large prize pack. It was really fun seeing so many different types of shoes, and how they were styled. I noticed a theme with most of my favorite shoes: strappy black shoes with a glamorous twist. I can’t stop thinking about them! The shoe judging was followed by a fun fashion show with clothes from the Pink Tulip Club. Oh, and one of the best parts of the night? The Ménage à Trois Prosecco samples that were being handed out. It was some of the best Prosecco I’ve had!

Ladylike in Leather

Pink J.Crew Sweater Urban Outfitters Leather Skirt

Urban Outfitters Pleated Leather Skirt

I can’t stop admiring how green the grass has become this month. That, and the gradually warming weather are two major signs of spring arriving! I’m so excited that everything is starting to bloom, and it’s making me want to plant as many colorful flowers as possible. After the winter from hell, I am appreciating spring and summer to the fullest this year!

Today’s outfit is all about being ladylike in leather. This pink J.Crew sweater is one of my favorites because it is so soft. Seriously, I could sleep in this thing, and I made sure to snag up a yellow one a few months ago on sale. I thought the pop of pink would be the perfect fit with the flirty cut of this Urban Outfitters skirt. I don’t get to wear this as much as I’d like, but when I do I always feel the perfect mix of edgy and feminine. I opted for silver jewelry today, which is pretty big of me. I consider myself a diehard gold girl, and my jewelry collection is proof of this. To say the silver options are lacking would be a big understatement. I’ve been saying for years that I “need silver jewelry”, but end up coming home with something gold. Now that I’ve confessed my gold weakness here, I truly am going to shop for more silver. After all, the silver section of my jewelry drawer could use some more companions!

Polka Dots and Leather

12 Mar

Kensie Polkadot Blouse

I cannot contain my excitement for Spring Forward this year. Having a blog really makes you appreciate having more daylight, especially when you try to squeeze in pictures after work. I feel like I’ve really been slacking the past few months because of the snow that seemed to be permanently on the ground from November up until a few weeks ago. The long-winded story of me living in my J.Crew Pixie pants since Christmas will not be harped on again, but let’s just say this new season is much appreciated!

With that being said, I’m trying to get as much use out of my booties as possible. I might be getting ahead of myself though, because it’s supposed to snow today. I’m trying to stick with the mentality that the weather gods just want me to get a few more wears out of my winter wardrobe before I can start sporting skirts and sundresses.

Houndstooth and Leather

Leather Skirt with Houndstooth Jacket

It warmed up a little over the weekend (despite the lack of sun), so I had to take full advantage and put on a skirt. I’ve always loved mixing classic pieces with edgier pieces to create a unique look, which is why I could wear this outfit on repeat! This pleated leather skirt has been a staple since I got it last year, and I think the pleating adds a nice feminine touch. I got this Q.Mack jacket about a month ago, and it’s been one of my favorite purchases in awhile. I love the quirkiness of a classic print in an unexpected silhouette. In this case, it’s the timeless houndstooth pattern in the form of a moto jacket.

Dressed Up Chambray

17 Feb

Chambray Shirt with Brown Leather Skirt

It’s been awhile since I’ve put up outfit pictures. This I am 100% blaming on the snow and ice. I wish I could say that my Pixie pants were still getting some much-needed downtime, but that would be a lie! Since I’ve been wearing my standard button down shirt (including this chambray), I thought it was time to switch it up a bit. After all, I was starting to worry that even the men in my office were noticing that I was basically wearing the same outfit day after day. The black pants got swapped for a dressier look. Cue the brown leather skirt, blazer and sparkly necklace.
