Fall Jewels + A GIVEAWAY

17 Oct

Grey Fitted Turtleneck

Long time no blog! I feel like 2016 has been one big hiatus for me, but my schedule got crazy again the past few weeks. When my calendar started filling up at the beginning of the year, I already knew October was going to be my busiest month. Well, here we are mid-month, and it’s just as insane as I predicted. Last week was spent in sunny Orlando for a real estate conference. It was about 90% work and 10% fun, but if you’ve ever been to a conference you know it’s 0% downtime to get stuff done. We tacked on an extra day after the conference for lounging, which was much-needed and incredible. Next up on my whirlwind October agenda? The Cutler Real Estate awards banquet in Canton later this week, a weekend trip to Cleveland for Joe’s birthday and then one of my best friend’s weddings that I’m in the following weekend. Just typing all that made the panic set in. Sure, most of it is fun stuff, but all that traveling can wear a girl out!

Tara Lea Smith Jewelry

Uniqlo Turtleneck

I’m starting the week with some fresh fall baubles. I recently met up with my friend Tara Lea Smith to see the gorgeous pieces she’s been creating the past year. If you want me to paint a pretty (and sparkly) picture, when I got home I immediately laid all of the necklaces across my bed to start doing some outfit brainstorming. Yes, I have so many new pieces that they took up my entire bed. I’m excited to share them with you over the next few months!

First up is this colorful purple, pink and yellow statement maker. It’s actually been pretty warm here, which is totally cool with me. I decided to keep it warm on top and breezy on the bottom, pairing a fitted grey turtleneck with a pleated leather skirt. I also recently rediscovered these mules that I got back in spring and had totally forgotten about. Score!

Denim Dress

To this day, one of the most satisfying situations in life is when I find something in my closet that I had totally forgotten about. I always feel like I hit the fashion jackpot when I score something freshly rediscovered that hasn’t seen the light of day in a few years.

My latest find? This denim mini dress that I bought my freshman year of college! Yes, this bad boy was purchased in from Forever 21 in 2008, and worn probably a total of two times. Since I was on a college student’s budget back then, most of my shopping took place at Forever 21. I remember a massive Forever 21 opening at a brand new shopping center during my freshman year at UD. This place was magical. It was two levels and felt like the size of a department store. Dayton, Ohio isn’t exactly a shopping mecca, so having a good Forever 21 nearby came in handy.

I shot this look a few weeks back when my mom and I went to lunch at Sotto. You can read that post here. It was pretty toasty out that day, and it was that point in the summer where you feel like you’ve already worn everything too many times. I dug deep in my closet, and saw this dress peeking out. It was the perfect daytime dress, and I spiced it up a little by adding this Tara Lea Smith necklace (doesn’t it look like an expensive Lulu Frost piece?!) and some heels. I’ve also been living in these lucite sunglasses from Banana Republic for the past three months. I had been looking for a pair that worked with my face for years with no luck, and finally settled on this pair that I love.

On another note, I’m finally starting to feel better after having strep throat all last week. It was rough, but I’m crossing my fingers I’ll somehow bypass the same illness once fall and winter hit. I’m relieved I won’t be bedridden anymore, but am a little nervous about all the work I have to catch up on. Time to get to those emails…

Signs of Fall

1 Sep

Pleated Leather Skirt with Chambray Shirt

Chambray and leather are two major fashion signs that fall is near. I like fall, but I like summer much better. Summer would be a year round season if it were up to me. I do like fall fashion though, so I’m conflicted. A month or two of fall and then back to summer would be my dream. Hey, even spring is great, so maybe just eliminating winter would solve my seasonal slump. In any case, I can never get enough of leather or chambray, so it only made sense to pair them with each other!

I wore this look last week for the Thread Cincinnati craft party with Gild Collective. I’m going to post more on that party soon (it involves wine, jewelry and a rooftop), but today it’s all about the outfit.

Everything I’m wearing I’ve actually had for awhile now. Don’t you love when you spend money on classic pieces that get their money’s worth? I’ve had this top and skirt for about three years. I’d say that’s a long time in fashion years!

Week In Review

7 Aug

Hello there! I’m running on fumes at this point in the week. Work’s going great, and I’ve been incredibly busy with some exciting blog-related opportunities, so I’m not complaining. My boyfriend was supposed to be in town this weekend, but had a last minute change of plans. I was bummed at first, but now I’m a little excited to have some “me” time and hang out.

As usual, I wanted to share a little recap of what I loved this week. Have a good weekend!

Cincinnati friends, there’s a lot going on at Kenwood Towne Centre this month. I just published a blog post for the Fearless Fashionista blog, so check it out here. In addition to some fun store events, there’s also a ton of great back to school fashion. I’ve been covering all the latest trends, and which stores you can shop them at!

Jewelry lovers, listen up! I’ve shared my love for my friend Tara Lea Smith’s jewelry for quite some time on here, and guess what? She’s added lots of new pieces to her Etsy shop! I love this feminine statement necklace. The soft pink and pearls are giving off some serious Marie Antoinette vibes!

Now, let’s end the post (and week) with a cocktail. How good does this blackberry lemonade margarita look from From Valerie’s Ktichen? Also, the rim is covered in sugar and lemon zest! That’s enough to make me want to drink this tonight.

Video: Tara Lea Smith Earrings

30 Jul

Between my move, and trips to Florida and Cleveland this month, there hasn’t been much time to film a video. Well I’m back, and today I’m wearing lots of gorgeous earrings designed by the fabulous Tara Lea Smith! I’ve worn her jewelry many times before on here, and wanted to share some of the stunning earrings she’s created. Today’s YouTube video is made up entirely of pieces by Tara.

I’m also excited to say that I’ve seen the pieces she’s been working on lately, and you will not be disappointed. After seeing them in person, I think I spent the rest of the day with a smile on my face. It’s so nice having someone else who is just as passionate about jewelry as I am, and especially colorful jewelry!

Deepa Gurnani Belt with White Dress

Happy Tuesday! I had a relaxing weekend with my boyfriend that consisted of lots of food. It’s great dating someone who shares your love of eating. I also use him as my guinea pig for trying out foods that I can’t eat because of my nut allergy. Despite being allergic to nuts and not eating meat, I still consider myself a foodie.

We did a lot this weekend, but one of the highlights was checking out the new addition at Top of the Park Friday. If you’re looking for a top notch rooftop bar experience in Cincinnati, look no further than the Residence Inn. We were frequent visitors of Top of the Park last year, but they’ve taken it to a whole new level this year (literally). The rooftop bar is so successful that they added a second level this year. You take a staircase from the original rooftop area up to the second level (which is complete with a bar, massive fireplace feature and the most incredible views of Cincinnati and beyond).

I recommend getting there early to put your name on the waitlist. My boyfriend and I went around 5:30 and waited around 45 minutes. I didn’t mind the wait though, because the weather was amazing and I was craving a drink after a long day of showing houses. If you’re looking for me this summer, you’ll likely find me at the Top of the Park!

Accessorizing a White Dress

Deepa Gurnani Beaded Belt

White Dress with Deepa Gurnani Belt

This Deepa Gurnani belt from Anthropologie has already been getting lots of use in the short time that I’ve owned it. It’s a lot more versatile than I ever realized it could be. Take this white pencil dress, for example. It’s great on its own, but with this beaded statement belt, it has a totally different vibe. The detailing on this belt is gorgeous, and it’s a perfect companion with my Tara Lea Smith choker. This outfit is all about the details, and the white dress is the canvas for that.

White Pleated Zara Blouse

It was a holiday here in Cincinnati yesterday, and I took part in the festivities. Opening Day is almost as important as Christmas around here, and I’ve been celebrating it for as long as I can remember. The entire city is a sea of red, and it’s pretty much impossible to move around comfortably downtown. Basically, it’s awesome.

The best part? We won! It’s always a bit iffy on Opening Day, and I feel like the Reds haven’t had too many great Opening Day victories. I usually go to the game, but opted to barhop outside the stadium with my friends. It was an amazing day, and it made me so happy that baseball season is here. I’m a huge baseball fan, so this is the greatest time of year for me. I’ve already started to add some new baseball-appropriate attire to my wardrobe in anticipation of upcoming games.

Casual Spring Outfit Ideas

Casual Spring Outfit Ideas

Today’s outfit mixes dressy and casual, for an easy spring outfit. I love any chance I get to wear this pleated Zara blouse, mainly because of the bell sleeves. I live for a detailed sleeve. Now that it’s warming up, I’m excited to start wearing more jewelry again. I feel like I kind of slacked in the jewelry department over the winter because I was so bundled up, and just over it. Jewelry was the last thing on my mind. My Tara Lea Smith choker necklace is the piece of jewelry I’ve been most excited to wear recently. It’s a statement piece, so you don’t need to overthink the rest of your outfit.

I also wanted to share an exciting project I’ve been working on with some other Cincinnati fashion bloggers. We recently launched Thread Cincinnati, a fashion-focused concept to unite our blogs and make it easy to find us all in one place. The fashion scene has really expanded in Cincinnati and the surrounding areas, and it’s nice to have a space to get inspiration and find other like-minded women with the same interests. Read more about us on this week’s Cincy Chic!

Leather Pants with Blazer

Happy hump day! I feel like it’s been a hot minute since I posted any sort of outfit on here. It’s something I’m not happy about, but the bitter cold has prevailed. It seems like we’ve been having a lot of those winter days where it’s extremely cold and overcast. For me, those are the worst days to get through. You’re already dealing with the cold and then you have to look at the sky and remember just how depressing this time of year is. Luckily, the weatherman is predicting sun for this week, and I’m taking advantage! The sun was starting to set when I took these pictures, but it was so nice to see something bright and cheery.

The jewelry I’m wearing today is long overdue for an appearance on the blog. Let’s talk about this choker first. The name Tara Lea Smith should sound pretty familiar, as I’ve worn a lot of her jewelry before. Simply put, she is a jewelry genius. I fell in love with this choker the first time she showed it to me. I love that it has an edgy vibe, but still has glamorous details. If you’re going to combine the two, this is how you do it!

Another piece I’ve been wearing a lot is this Arthur & Livingston Mermaid Cuff. There’s a lot of reasons I love this bracelet. For starters, it’s great for layering. I usually wear it stacked with other bracelets, which ends up looking effortless and extra flashy (in a good way). Another thing that sold me on this cuff was that it’s adjustable. Yes, I know the ability to adjust isn’t at the top of everyone’s priority list, but it’s pretty high on mine. When you have abnormally small wrists like I do, you tend to have problems in the bracelet department. Things just don’t stay on my wrists well, and I have to work a little harder when finding a suitable wrist accessory. I was so happy when I tried this cuff on and I could bend it as secure as possible. It was a very comforting feeling to know your jewelry isn’t going anywhere but your wrist!

Video: Fashion & Accessories Haul!

2 Dec

I’m back after a mini hiatus! As fun as the holidays are, they are equally as stressful and chaotic. I’ve been busy helping prepare for an onslaught of upcoming holiday parties, and I think the madness will slowly start to settle soon.

So, I realized recently that I’ve actually bought quite a few things these past few months. I’m not much of a fall and winter girl, which can be evidenced by my lack of fashion choices this time of year. A few months ago, you could have heard crickets coming from my cold weather section of the closet. Not having winter-appropriate clothing was my own twisted way of rebelling against my least favorite seasons. I finally came to the realization that this “rebellion” was doing nothing, and decided I needed to stock up on some new clothes. Trust me, it was torture saying no to those end-of-summer sales. I had to constantly tell myself “No, you’re only buying fall and winter stuff now.”

I’ve worn a lot of this stuff on my blog already. There are a few things that I’m also planning on wearing soon (if this weather ever cooperates). I wanted to share everything, because I’m really excited about all the styling possibilities there are. Also, I just really love watching “haul” videos on YouTube, and thought it would be fun to make one ;). If you aren’t familiar, hauls are essentially a roundup of items you bought. AKA what I like to call a successful shopping trip.

This video is a mix of local boutiques and mass retailers (all of which I love shopping at). I hope you enjoy, and Happy December!

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m actually kind of excited it’s Monday. This isn’t a typical thing for me, as I dread the start of a new week (I wish every day was Friday). This week though, I’m feeling energized and refreshed after an easygoing weekend in Cleveland. My boyfriend’s birthday is today, so I made the 4 hour trek up I-71 to visit him for the weekend. We did a lot of eating (the usual), a little bit of bar-hopping and played more games of Mario Kart than I’d like to admit. For the birthday dinner Friday, we ate at L’Albatros, a cute little French restaurant on the Case Western campus. Dinner was amazing, but I was most excited for brunch the next day. Every time I visit Cleveland, I insist that we go to Town Hall for brunch. If you’re ever in Cleveland, you need to experience it! I usually treat myself to a mimosa (or two), but we wanted to have a productive day, and champagne tends to make me sleepy.

I also got to experience the Brooks Brothers store downtown, which is one of the most beautiful stores I’ve ever been in. It was two levels, had oversized columns, and was the epitome of old-school glamour. Yes, I get excited about the little things. Anyway, it was a nice little getaway that has me feeling ready to take on the week ahead.

Colorful Statement Necklace Denim Outfit

How amazing does this Tara Lea Smith necklace look with my denim on denim outfit? You might remember me wearing it with this outfit, but I loved the idea of transitioning it into fall with something more casual. Double denim is such an easy outfit to wear. I love that you can just add some jewelry and heels and easily transform it into a chic, effortless look.
